Who is Seasons?
We’re a sibling harp and
hammered dulcimer trio made up of Mary-Kate Spring, Peter
Winter, and Mary-Teresa Summer Lee. Teresa also plays mandolin
while Mary-Kate and Peter are heard on the penny whistle. We
all play piano and try our hand at percussion. We range in age
from seventeen to twenty-two unless our fourteen-year-old
sister Mary-Grace Autumn sits in. We’re all homeschoolers
although Mary-Kate and Peter are now at Franciscan University.
We’ve been playing professionally and as a ministry for about
seven years.
What kind of music do you
like to play?
In addition to our original
songs, we play everything from Johnny Cash to Coldplay, from
Bach to the Beatles, and from Elvis to Lord of the Rings. (In
fact, Mary-Kate and Peter can be seen on you tube playing
Clocks on the harp and hammered dulcimer with two djembe
players. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaIiS8DZhew)) That
video, by the way, has been viewed more than 2500 times,
meaning that it’s been viewed by 12 people other than our dad!
Do all the children in
your family have a season for a middle name?
Yes. Believe it or not,
even our sister Mary-Clare, whom we adopted from China in
2000, was already Li Chun, or Spring Lee, when we adopted her!
Our younger brother Luke-Joseph is Winter,
How did you guys meet?
Our parents introduced us.
Where do you play?
(Also see the "Now
Playing" Link)
Mary-Kate played an
original rendition of The Prayer of Saint Francis for mass in
the crypt where Saint Francis is buried at the Basilica of San
Francesco d'Assisi in Italy and did some time as a street
musician while studying at Oxford. More routinely, we play at
churches, nursing homes, receptions, weddings, parties, coffee
houses, and just about any venue a band can be called to.
We’re pretty sure we are the only harpists to have ever played
on the stage of the Appalachian Brewing Company.
We once opened for three-time Grammy Award winner Ashley
Cleveland in Ohio, and we played at a reception for the Papal
Nuncio in Washington, D.C. We’ve also been featured performers
with the Harrisburg Harp Orchestra on numerous occasions
including performances at the Forum. This summer, we’re
playing again at the Harrisburg Arts Fest, and Mary-Kate will
be the featured harpist for the Pennsylvania Renaissance
Faire. This summer Peter will be playing in Bob Rice’s band
for the on-campus Franciscan University of Steubenville
Conferences.
